August: Lightning
The skies did appear to be clear to the south although there was a storm to the north. I took some photos of that storm while waiting for darkness to fall. When it did, another storm appeared on the southern horizon and clouds obscured the Milky Way. I did get these lightning photos of the northern storm as it approached and then finally forced me to leave.
Sort of on a whim, I ended up at Castle Rock (a 6 hour drive) to shoot the Milky Way behind the formations there. The forecast wasn't good and when we got there we found that skies to the south were clear but as darkness fell, storms started to form in the area. This storm coming from the north was creating enough light for us to see the landscape before us which removed the need to do our own light painting. The Milky Way was very quickly obscured by clouds in the south so we turned around to photography this storm.
